연구 목적: 이 연구는 영웅의 여정과 트랜스 아이덴티티로 영화 <굿윌헌팅>의 스토리텔링을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 인간의 성장과 통과의례를 상징적으로 표현하는 영웅신화 서사가 현대 영화에도 다양한 스토리로 차용되고 있다. 영화 <굿윌헌팅>에 나타나는 영웅의 여정을 대입하여 분석하였고, 등장인물이 정체성이 변화하는 과정인 트랜스 아이덴티티 특징이 잘 드러나는 장면을 선정하여 분석하였다. 연구 내용: 스토리텔링의 중요성은 고대로부터 지속적으로 강조됐으며, 서사 구조는 주인공의 여정을 통해 발생하는 시련과 고난, 성장을 중심으로 구성되고 있다. 서사 구조를 분석하는 데 있어 영웅의 여정과 트랜스 아이덴티티의 분석 틀을 선정하였다. 영화 내에서 주인공(윌)이 다른 사람과의 만남과 그들에게 받은 영향을 통해 정체성이 변화되는 과정을 집중적으로 살펴보았다. 결론 및 제언: 등장인물이 겪게 되는 영웅의 여정 단계가 전환되는 시점에 인물의 정체성 또한 변화된다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 영웅의 여정과 트랜스 아이덴티티는 영화의 서사구조를 더욱 깊이 있게 분석할 수 있는 도구임을 확인하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the storytelling of the film Good Will Hunting through the lens of the hero’s journey and trans identity. The heroic mythological narrative, which symbolizes human growth and rites of passage, has been borrowed into various stories in contemporary films. We analyzed the hero’s journey in the movie Good Will Hunting and selected scenes that are characterized by trans identity, a process in which a character’s identity changes. The importance of storytelling has been continuously emphasized since ancient times, and the narrative structure is organized around the trials, tribulations, and growth of the protagonist’s journey. To analyze the narrative structure, I chose the framework of hero’s journey and trans identity. I focused on how the protagonist’s (Will) identity is transformed through his encounters with other people and their influence on him. I found that the character’s identity changes as he transitions through the stages of the hero’s journey. I found that the hero’s journey and trans-identity are tools that can be used to further analyze the narrative structure of a film.
