20세기 초 한국어 교재의 학습 활동 연구－1960년 이전 서양인의 한국어 교재를 중심으로－

Abstract

This study is to consider the Korean language learning activities of westerners in the beginning of the 20th century. It investigated the aspects of practice activity which confirmed or strengthened the learning contents and utilized it variously. The Korean language learning activities of westerners in the beginning of the 20th century can be divided into five points in large. First, pattern drill was the practice to master the structure of sentence through oral training. They tried to master the tense expression, honorific expression and interrogative expression and practiced to extend the sentence. Second, the vocabulary practice was the learning activity of vocabulary itself using vocabulary list or by replacing the vocabulary in sentence. Third, there was the writing practice and the translation practice. translation practice was to translate the sentences adapted significant grammar items. The writing practice suggested the process of ‘copying of sentences-writing from memory-writing from dictation-writing of original sentences’ and it included the speaking practice. Fourth thing was the reading learning activity. There were the reading aloud practice of linguistic conversation phrases and the reading practice focusing on contents. The reading practice focusing on contents consisted of proverb reading, story text reading and explanation reading. Until now, it has been known that the learning activity of Korean language textbook has been conducted since 1960s. But through this research, it is found that the learning activity of Korean language was executed by the Korean language textbooks of westerners in the beginning of the 20th century. The Korean language learning activity of westerner in the beginning of the 20th century has the meaning that it suggested the frame of specific and systematical learning activity such as sentence structure training and that it handled the learning of Korean culture intentionally and that it reflected the Korean language learning experience of westerners and they developed the learning activity spontaneously.
