본 연구의 목적은 그리스의 철학자 코르넬리우스 카스토리아디스 사상의 핵심을 철학적 사유와 정치적 실천의 결합, 즉 사회적 상상에 기초한 철학적 사유와 자율에 기초한 정치적 실천의 결합으로 설명하고, 양자를 매개하는 핵심 개념이 스스로 법칙을 부여하는 능력을 뜻하는 자율임을 보여주는 것이다. 그리고 전 세계적으로 자본주의적 합리적 지배가 여전히 위세를 떨치고 있는 오늘날의 상황에서 자율적 개인들의 자율적 사회를 향한 첫 번째 단계이자 구체적인 정치적 실천 영역이 생태주의적 전환이라는 사실을 카스토리아디스의 사상을 통해 드러낼 것이다. 카스토리아디스는 우리 사회에 많이 알려져 있지 않은 생경한 사상가다. 하지만 그의 사회적 상상과 자율에 근거한 새로운 제도의 창조라는 영감이 넘치는 사상은 점점 더 불확실성과 혼란이 가중되는 다중위기 속에서 인류가 어떤 선택을 해야하며 어떤 방향성을 향해 나아가야 하는지에 대한 중요한 이정표를 제시할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it aims to explain the core of Cornelius Castoriadis’s philosophy as the combination of philosophical thought based on social imagination and political practice based on autonomy, demonstrating that the key concept mediating the two is autonomy, meaning the capacity to self-legislate. Second, it is to reveal, through Castoriadis’s thought, that the ecological transition constitutes the first step toward an autonomous society of autonomous individuals and the concrete domain of political practice in today’s world, where capitalist rational mastery still reigns supreme. Castoriadis is a relatively unfamiliar thinker in our society. Yet his inspired ideas—centered on social imagination and the creation of new institutions grounded in autonomy—will provide crucial signposts for humanity’s choices and direction amid the intensifying uncertainties and chaos of polycrisis.
