최근 국내 가구산업의 소비패턴은 기능중심에서 개개인의 개성을 중시하는 소비패턴으로 변화하고 있다. 공급자 중심의 제품기능 및 가격 경쟁요소보다 소비자 중심의 가치와 경험을 제공하기 위한 제품 디자인이 경쟁의 중요한 요소가 되었다. 하지만 대부분의 중소기업은 여러 원인들로 인해 이러한 디자인 패러다임에 편승하지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제인식을 바탕으로 중소 가구기업이 소비자에게 새로운 가치와 경험을 제공할 수 있도록 가구산업에 특화된 사용자 중심 제품 디자인 프로세스를 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해서, 우선 문헌조사를 통해 검증된 사용자 중심 디자인 프로세스를 확인하였다. 이후 9개의 가구업체, 19명의 전문가와 심층 인터뷰(In-depth interview)를 통해 가구산업 제품 디자인 프로세스를 조사하였다. 수집된 데이터의 정성적 분석을 통해, 기존 가구산업 제품 디자인 프로세스와에 사용자 중심 디자인 프로세스를 비교 분석하여 차이점을 정의하고, 사용자의 니즈와 선호를 보다 효율적으로 적용하기 위한 가구산업 사용자 중심 제품 디자인 프로세스를 기획(Plan), 개발(Design), 프로토타이핑(Prototype), 평가(Evaluate), 출시 및 모니터링(Launch & Monitor) 5단계로 새롭게 제시하였다.
Abstract
Recently, consumption patterns in domestic furniture market have changed from function-centered to customer-centered. Design that can provide customer-centered value and experience has become a pivotal factor that determine a product’s competitiveness relative to its function and price. However, most small-sized businesses are struggling to follow this shift of paradigm because of several reasons. In this study, with the awareness of this problematic situation, our goal is to propose <user-centered product design process model>, exclusively for domestic furniture industry, to facilitate small-sized business to provide new value and experience to their customers. To achieve this, we first extrapolated factors that can be applied to our model through exhaustive paper research. Further, we conducted in-depth interview with 9 furniture companies and 19 industry experts to identify the existing product design process. Through qualitative research of collected data, we analyze previous design process models in domestic furniture market, define differences of the models, and apply users’ needs and preferences to our design process model. In this regard, we propose <user-centered product design process model> with 5 steps: Plan; Design; Prototype; Evaluate; and Launch & Monitor.
