Abstract

Empirical studies on happiness and living conditions have found that managerial/professional persons are generally happier than those with other occupations. South Korea, according to the findings of 2008 Korean General Social Surveys (KGSS), is no exception. From the perspective of comparative sociology, however, managerial/professional Koreans are more religious than other people in the country; 35.3 per cent of them are conservative/evangelical Protestants, thereby refuting the secularization thesis. How can we understand the selective affinity between highly educated nagerial/professional persons and religious affiliation (specifically Protestantism) in Korean context? Considering what effects religious experience can have in people's lives such as health and happiness or SWB (subjective well-being), this study investigates the link between high happiness and high religiosity among managerial/professional Koreans. Lastly, following Moberg (2008), the present study suggests further necessary examination on comparing the similarity, difference, and consequences of the spiritualities of various religions.
