Abstract
This study aimed to derive practical strategies for the planning and management of urban healing forests by applying Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to analyze users’ motivations and preferences. A survey was conducted with visitors to urban parks in Incheon, and respondents were classified into five levels of needs. The study then examined differences in interest, preferred facilities, and forest healing programs. The results showed that higher levels of needs were associated with significantly greater interest in healing forests and stronger willingness to participate in relevant facilities and programs. Specifically, individuals in the physiological needs group (Level 1) preferred walking-based infrastructure such as trails and exercise-focused programs, while those in the esteem and self-actualization groups (Levels 4-5) showed higher preferences for meditative spaces, forest healing centers, and advanced mental healing programs. These findings suggest the necessity of customized spatial design and differentiated program development based on users’ levels of needs. The results serve as foundational data for the scientific and systematic creation of healing spaces tailored to urban contexts. Future research should include diverse populations and regions, analyze long-term therapeutic effects, and explore the policy feasibility of healing forest interventions.
