Abstract

There are two types of forest healing activities: those accompanied by an expert forest healing instructor and those that are self-guided without an expert. The purpose of thisstudy wasto directly experience a Self-guided forest healing program for visitors to forest welfare facilities and to learn about the preferences and needs of each type of visitor. The research period isfrom August 11 to October 17, 2021, targeting 308 adult men and women who visited the Baekdudaegan Ecological Arboretum and Forest Ecological Culture Experience Center. For the Self-guided forest healing program, healing places were selected: healing valleys, forest paths, arboretums, and meditation areas. Research participants read the guide, visited the four selected healing sites individually, participated in a Self-guided forest healing program, and then completed a survey. The analysis was divided into three groups by visitor type: one-night stay, more than two-night type and one-day type. The results were as follows: First, the one-night stay was the most common type of visit, most visitors were family units with children, regardless of the type of stay. Significant differences in visit types were observed based on age, occupation, residence, visit type, and visit route (p<0.05). Second, the psychological and emotional effects of forest healing were highly rated, with significant differences based on prior knowledge of forest healing and experience visiting forest healing institutions (p<0.05). Third, autumn was the most preferred season for Selfguided forest healing activities, the most important factorwasthe forest healing elements, and the most preferred duration for participation was one night and two days. Visitors were generally satisfied with locations featuring valleys and forest trails, and walking was the most preferred activity among all visitor types. Additionally, visitors expressed satisfaction with Self-guided forest healing activities. Therefore, this study suggeststhat it is necessary to develop programs for each type of visitor and to apply or expand Self-guided forest healing programs as well as forest healing instructor-accompanied programs depending on the environment of forest welfare facilities.
