본 논문은 ‘위험의 주관화’라는 테제를 중심으로 위험과 현대인의 삶에 대해 고찰한 문헌 연구이다. 연구의 주요 내용으로는 우선 과거 위험과 현대사회 위험의 의미 변화를 고찰하여 현대 위험사회의 위험의 성격을 분석하고 있다. 위험은 부정적 영향의 실재(reality)와 발생 가능성(possibility)의 관계로 구성되며, 위험 인식과정에서는 검증된 위험의 실체 보다는 발생가능성에 대한 불확실성이 더 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 위험의 주관화는 ‘위험이란 본질적으로 사회적으로 재구성된 주관적 인식’으로서, 실제 존재 여부와는 상관없이 발생가능성에 대한 불안감 때문에 ‘위험한 것으로 주관적으로 판단되는 것이 위험한 것’으로 인식되는 과정이다. 또한 위험의 주관화 테제를 현대인의 삶의 모순적 성격과 연결하여 제시하고 있는 바, 본 연구에서는 현대사회의 ‘위험 파라독스’, ‘개인화 파라독스’, ‘자유 파라독스’에 대해 조명함으로써 합리성과 보편성이라는 제도의 힘에 종속되어지는 현대인의 성찰적 삶의 필요성을 제기하고 있다.
Abstract
The study is a documentary research to analyze risks and people's life in modern society by a thesis of subjectivization of risk. The main contents of this study are a meaning of risks in modern society and characteristics of risks. A risk is composed by relation between reality of unexpected outcomes and possibility of occurrence. Uncertainty of risks is more important than reality of risks in a process of cognition of risks. Risks are reconstructed by subjective cognition and socio-culture. Subjectivization of risk is a process to recognize risks by an anxiety of possibility of occurrence. This study explains contradiction in a modern life-risk paradox, individualization paradox, and freedom paradox- under the thesis of subjectivization of risk. This study suggests that a reflexive life is needed to modern people who are dependent on a social system of rationality and universality.
