Abstract

The current study examined the moderating effect of supervision relationship expectation in the association between counselor’s narcissism and countertransference behavior. Data of 175 counselors were analyzed by hierarchically regression to test moderating effect. The findings revealed that the alleviating effects between counselor’s grandiose narcissism and supervision relationship expectation were significant for disinterest/expulsion countertransference behavior. In addition, the alleviating effects between supervision relationship expectation and counselor’s FFNI antagonism were significant for disinterest/expulsion. Moreover, the alleviating effects between supervision relationship expectation and counselor’s FFNI extraversion were significant for disinterest/expulsion. However, there were no alleviating effects between vulnerable narcissism/FFNI neuroticism and supervision relationship expectation for countertransference behaviors. The implications and limitations of the study were discussed and future research directions were suggested.
