초록
We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Epipomponia nawai (Dyar, 1904) (Lepidoptera: Epipyropidae), which is the first species in the family Epipyropidae. Comparison of E. nawai mitogenome to available 46 complete mitogenomes of the superfamily Zygaenoidea showed the 15,224-bp long E. nawai mitogenome to have typical characteristics found in majority of Zygaenoidea. In particular, majority of the superfamily members including E. nawai had a conserved sequence block, ATAGA, along with the adjoining poly-T stretch within the A+T-rich region that is known to signal for replication and transcription initiation of the minor strand of mitogenomes. A minor difference detected in E. nawai mitogenome was slightly higher A/T content in srRNA than other members. A notable difference found only in E. nawai mitogenome was the two-bp shorter conserved sequence stretch, TTAGT, at the trnS2 and ND1 junction, instead of the TTAGTAT stretch, which is known to function as the possible recognition site for the transcription termination peptide in several insect groups. Phylogenetic analysis using available mitogenome sequences in Zygaenoidea is far limiting for meaningful inference in that only four in 12 families including Epipyropidae are available. However, our analysis showed a monophyletic Zygaenoidea, along with the sister relationship between Limacodidae and current Limacodidae, which was supported in a previous phylogenetic study performed using extensive molecular and morphological data. Considering the mitogenome sequences for Zygaenoidea is limitedly available an addition of a new familial member could be useful for a diverse field of evolutionary study.
