초록
The purpose of this study was to determine the physicochemical properties of esculin-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) inclusion complex. A host-guest inclusion complex of esculin (6,7-dihydroxycoumarin-2-one 6-β-D-glucoside) with HPCD was prepared to improve the solubility of esculin. HPCD, a highly water soluble β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) derivative, was synthesized by the substitution of the hydroxyl groups under high pressure condition. β-CD has only limited water solubility, whereas HPCD showed high water solubility and could also dissolved in solvents such as methanol, ethanol, dimethylformamide, and dimethylsulfoxide. The physicochemical properties of the host-guest inclusion complex of esculin with HPCD were investigated by using 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C-NMR, differential scanning colorimetry, and X-ray diffraction. HPCD could improve the various physicochemical properties of cosmetic ingredients such as their aqueous solubility and chemical stability. The result suggested that this complex could be a good host-guest system for functional cosmetics.
