차우파디 관습(Chhaupadi Pratha)의 영향: 네팔의 문화 및 종교적 관습

Abstract

This qualitative study utilized purposive sampling in the central part of Budhiganga-05, Bajura district, Far Western Province, Nepal. The study involved a diverse population with various occupations, castes, cultures, languages, literacy levels, and backgrounds. Out of the total 213 women of reproductive age in the study area, 30 were found to be menstruating women. The researchers employed questionnaires, direct in-depth interviews, observations, meetings, and conversations to gather data on the participants' experiences. The narrative accounts of the 'Chhaupadi' practice provided by the respondents will significantly contribute to the research, enhancing its validity. The qualitative component consists of in-depth interviews with women who have undergone Chhaupadi Partha, as well as community leaders, religious figures, and healthcare providers. These interviews delve into the cultural and religious beliefs underpinning Chhaupadi Partha, exploring its social and psychological implications for women. Additionally, the interviews shed light on the attitudes and perceptions of key stakeholders towards this practice, including potential strategies for its eradication. The findings of this research endeavor are expected to contribute to the existing knowledge on the menstrual health of women in Nepal and the broader discourse on menstrual taboo and gender inequality. The research outcomes will provide valuable insights for policymakers, NGOs, and community leaders to develop contextually appropriate interventions aimed at eliminating Chhaupadi Partha and promoting menstrual health and gender equity. Ultimately, it is hoped that this study will help foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women's menstrual health and well-being in Nepal, addressing the harmful effects of traditional practices like Chhaupadi Partha.
