Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the concept of hospitality and its strategic implication on service sector, specifically the aviation industry. To accomplish this goal, previous researches on hospitality and its management are reviewed and the Delphi survey is conducted. There is no opinions in accord in terms of the definition of hospitality. Measurement scale for hospitality has not been well developed. Hospitality should be made the best use of to create immemorable experience to customers. Long-term relationship and interaction between customers and host including external stake-holders should be built and developed. The objects for hospitality should be broadened from initial shelter, food and beverage into human factors like the gesture and communication. Results from the empirical analysis show that each service industry has its emphasizing hospitality dimension or factor. Specific hospitality dimension should be utilized and applied for its segmented process to gain competitive edge and meet the customer value. Hospitality can be applied as a strategic asset in aviation industry as well as other service field. Some practical implications are also discussed.
