본 연구는 내러티브 탐구 방법에 대해 전체적으로 소개하고 이해하고자하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 질적 연구의 목적은 인간의 이해에 있으며, 내러티브 탐구는 인간 이해를 위하여 개별 인간들의 살아진 경험 이야기를 탐구하는 질적 연구 방법 중의 하나이다. 내러티브 탐구의 이해를 위해 다음 사항에 초점을 두고 살펴보았다. 첫째, 내러티브 탐구가 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 내러티브 탐구는 인간의 경험을 이야기화 된 현상이라고 보고, 살아진 경험을 존중하면서 인간 삶을 탐구한다. 둘째, 인간 경험 탐구에 있어서 내러티브를 활용하는 것이 왜 중요한지, 내러티브의 가치를 살펴보고 내러티브 탐구 방법의 효율성을 제시하였다. 셋째, 내러티브 탐구의 철학적 바탕을 Dewey의 경험이론에 근거하여 이해하려고 하였다. 넷째, 내러티브 탐구를 위해 알아두어야 할 주요한 개념, 즉 개인적·실제적 지식, 전문적 지식환경, 살아내는 이야기, 살기-말하기-다시 말하기-다시 살기라는 4가기 핵심용어에 대해 알아보았다. 다섯째, 내러티브 탐구시 연구자의 역할에 대해 살펴보았다. 여섯째, 내러티브 탐구의 정당성 확보를 위한 세가지 제안점을 알아보았다.
Abstract
This paper aims for introducing Narrative Inquiry Methodology in theory and practice. The ultimate goal of qualitative research is understanding human experience. Narrative Inquiry is one of qualitative research methods to understand human beings as unique individuals through stories of their lived experiences. The six sections are explored in this paper for general understanding about Narrative Inquiry. The titles of them are as follows: first, ‘What is narrative inquiry?’; second, ‘Why narrative?’; third, ‘Philosophical ground for narrative inquiry’; fourth, ‘Key terms in narrative inquiry’; fifth, ‘What narrative inquirers do’; sixth, ‘Ensuring justifications for narrative inquiry.’
