아동기 부정적 생애경험과 성인의 우울 증상 -성인기 사회적 지지의 조절효과에 대한 탐색-

초록

본 연구는 아동기 부정적 생애경험과 성인의 우울 증상 간의 관계에서 성인기 사회적 지지의조절효과에 대해 분석하였다. 본 연구의 분석 대상은 2012년 한국종합사회조사 자료의 1,396 명의 성인이다. 아동기 부정적 생애경험과 성인기 사회적 지지 및 우울 증상 간의 연관성을탐색하기 위하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였으며, 아동기 부정적 생애경험과 성인기 우울 증상 간의 관계에서 성인기 사회적 지지의 조절효과를 확인하고자 하위집단 분석법을 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 아동기 부정적 생애경험은 성인의 우울 증상에 대한 위험성을 증대시키고, 성인기 사회적 지지가 분석에 추가된 후 우울 증상에 대한 아동기 부정적 생애경험에서 추정된회귀계수의 크기는 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 성인의 사회적 지지는 우울 증상과 부정적 연관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 하위집단 분석 결과, 아동기 부정적 생애경험의 수준이 높고 성인의 사회적 지지의 수준이 낮은 집단의 경우 우울 증상에 대한 위험성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 따라서, 아동기 부정적 생애경험이 성인의 우울 증상에 미치는 부정적인 영향을 완화할 수 있도록 사회적 지지를 기반으로 하는 네트워크 구축의 중요성을 제언하였다.

Abstract

The current study examines the moderating role of adulthood social support in associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adult depression. Using data from the 2012 Korean General Social Survey, the analytic sample consists of 1,396 adults aged 18 years and older. Linear regression models were hierarchically estimated to examine the associations among ACEs, adulthood social support, and depression and subgroup analysis was employed to explore the moderating role of adulthood social support in the associations between ACEs and adult depression. Results indicated that ACEs were significantly associated with a higher risk of experiencing depression (Model 1). After adulthood social support was added into Model 1, the magnitude of the estimated regression coefficient of ACEs on depression was slightly decreased. Adult social support was also negatively associated with depression. In addition, survey respondents with higher levels of ACEs and lower levels of adulthood social support were in the highest risk category of depression. Both ACEs and adulthood social support are independently and significantly associated with depression, and the combination of higher levels of ACE and lower levels of social support has the most predictive power of depression. Building social support networks may mitigate the negative effects of ACEs on adult mental health.
