Abstract
The intricate craftsmanship of Miao costume patterns poses challenges for modern sustainability, yet the rapid advancement of AIGC technology offers new possibilities for their reconstruction. The reinterpretation of traditional Miao ethnic costume patterns and their application in multifunctional cultural and creative product gift box packaging design. Under the theoretical frameworks of semiotics, cultural creativity, and AIGC technology, eight representative geometric patterns from Miao costumes were analyzed, leading to the summarization of four compositional principles and three reinterpretation methods for Miao patterns. A human–AI collaborative approach was adopted, utilizing ChatGPT for brainstorming, Midjourney for pattern generation, and Procreate for sketching and design optimization, ultimately enabling the practical implementation of reinterpreted patterns in multifunctional cultural and creative gift box designs. AIGC-assisted reinterpretation scheme of Miao patterns demonstrated superiority over the original pattern-based packaging design in terms of pattern characteristics, creativity, applicability, aesthetic quality, and consumer acceptance. Among these, the reinterpreted design Plan B, which embodies connotations of hope and brightness, received the highest evaluation. This demonstrates that the AIGC-assisted reconstruction of Miao patterns, when applied to cultural-creative product packaging design, possesses significant cultural and social value and can contribute to the sustainable development of ethnic culture.
