Abstract

This study explores controversial theories claiming the effects of cooperation strategy on organizational innovation in 21st hyper-connected era. In this era innovation and cooperation is directly related to organizations’ survival and competitiveness. First, we examined cooperation might be disadvantageous on organizational search. Ambiguities in attributing performance to actors involved in cooperation decrease organization’s further motivation to search. Second, performance feedback's moderating effect on might mitigate organizational search and cooperation despite its unclear accountability. Finally, we investigate moderating effects of status under cooperation on organizational innovation. An analysis of Korean high-tech firm’s patent applications data from 1994 to 2008 supports our predictions: cooperative experiences weaken organization's search and the weakening effect of performance feedback on cooperation and organizational search, while status strengthens.
