Abstract

This study aimed to develop a creativity enhancement program that integrates tangible play with ChatGPT and to conduct a preliminary evaluation of its effectiveness among early adolescents in a community setting. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 21 participants from a youth center in Seoul. The experimental group (n = 11) participated in a four-session program, whereas the control group (n = 10) did not receive the intervention. Changes in creativity were assessed through pre- and post-test assessments. Creativity was measured using the Creative Problem-Solving Profile Inventory (CPSPI), which consists of four subdomains: problem identification and analysis, idea generation, planning, and execution. Repeated measures ANOVA was conducted to examine the program’s effectiveness. The results showed that the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in creativity scores compared to the control group, with particularly significant gains in the subdomains of idea generation and execution. Program satisfaction survey indicated high overall satisfaction with the activity design. This study provides empirical evidence that integrating tangible play-based hands-on activities with AI tools can foster creative thinking in early adolescents and demonstrates the potential for expanding creativity education models beyond school settings through university–community collaboration. Future studies should refine program content, incorporate a broader range of tools, and adopt diversified evaluation methods to enhance program effectiveness.
