Abstract

Aerial image analysis faces limitations in performance improvement due to the diverse viewpoint variations ofunmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the high costs associated with data collection and labeling. In this study, wepropose an integrated framework that first performs registration by compensating for rotational differences, thentrains a detection model through a synthetic data generation and training method, and finally determines object-levelchanges such as movement, appearance, and disappearance. Rotation estimation is stabilized even under large angulardifferences by using a ResNet-18 Siamese network trained on 360° Virtual Battle Space (VBS) simulation data. Thedetector trained on synthetic data also demonstrated consistent performance in simulated image pipelines that mimicreal-world scenarios. Notably, applying rotation correction in change detection improved the mIoU significantly from0.2946 to 0.7013. In addition, the YOLOX-s model trained on synthetic data achieved mAP@0.5:0.95 = 0.563 in aseparate test scenario. Although these results are based on simulation data, the same procedure can be extended toreal UAV imagery and IR-fusion environments, suggesting its potential applicability in real-world operations.
