오정희 소설에 나타난 신화적 상상력과 제의성 연구 - 「옛 우물」과「동경」을 중심으로 -

Abstract

This is a study on mythological imagination and rituality that were shown in Oh Jeong-hui's novels. Oh Jeong-hui's works are contained keen insight into human existence. This insight into a human being is being indicated as the investigation into the world of inner consciousness through the detailed description. What this study aims to take note is the death consciousness of the characters in Oh Jeong-hui's novels. A person is the finite existence in which anybody is before death. But most people are living with failing to realize death. However, the characters in Oh Jeong-hui's novels respond exceptionally sensitively to death. That is because the death of being felt by them is the 'death at the point with the ambiguous boundary with life,' not the death as the last process that has no simple fear or nothing more. In other words, the life and the death in Oh Jeong-hui's novels show paradoxical logic as saying that life and death are biting the mutual end like Ouroboros, which is a shape of a serpent that is eating its own tail with own mouth, not what is contrasting. This originates from mythological imagination that is contained in Oh Jeong-hui's literature. This study examined about mythological imagination and rituality that were shown in「Old Well」and「Bronze Mirror(銅鏡)」with having regarded one characteristic in Oh Jeong-hui's novels as archetypal symbolism and mythological imagination that were shown in works. Through this, it can be known how author Oh Jeong-hui's mythological imagination is being indicated in her novels with figuring out the aspect of mythological imagination that has been continued in modern novel with beginning from myth.
