Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 24-weeks basketball program on the body composition, metabolic risk factors and physical fitness in overweighted student with intellectual disability. Fifteens volunteers participated as subjects in this study, and they were divided into exercise group(n=7) and control group(n=8). The exercise group participated in a supervised basketball program for 24-weeks (60 min, 3 day per week), after 24weeks basketball program, body weight, BMI, %Fat, waist circumference and DBP significantly decreased, whereas HDL-C significantly increased. Muscle power and cardiovascular fitness increased after training. In addition, the changes of body weight, BMI and %Fat were positively related to blood pressure and muscle power. As these results, this study suggests that the 24-weeks basketball exercise program may reduce the body composition and metabolic risk factors and improves physical fitness in overweighted students with intellectual disability.
