초록
This paper aims to investigate the relationship between extroversion-introversion and time metaphors in English and Korean. The experiments examined whether individual differences in extroversion contribute to Korean’s interpretation of the ambiguous expression about time in an unprimed context. The results of the experiments indicate that individual differences in extroversion can influence temporal reasoning. Specifically, in the case of the English target sentence, participants who adopted the Ego-Moving metaphor (responding ‘2:00 pm’) averaged significantly higher extroversion scores than participants who adopted the Time-Moving metaphor (responding ‘10:00 am’), but in the case of the Korean target sentence, participants who adopted the Ego-Moving metaphor did not average significantly higher extroversion scores than participants who adopted the Time-Moving metaphor. These results show new evidence of the correlation between extroversion-introversion and time metaphors in English and Korean.
