제조업과 서비스업 외국계 기업의 인도 시장에서의 생존분석 연구

초록

본 연구는 인도 제조업과 서비스업을 중심으로 외국계 기업의 생존율과 결정요인을 분석하였다. 인도 CMIE의 데이터를 활용하여 비모수적 생존분석인 카플란 마이어(Kalpan-Meier) 분석과 준모수적 생존분석인 콕스 비례위험(Cox proportional hazard) 모형을 사용하였다. 분석 대상기업은 1991년부터 2021년 기간 동안 영업활동을 하는 총 1,434개 외국계 기업이다. 제조업 기업은 총 399개 기업 중에 59개 기업만이 소멸되어 높은 수준의 생존율을 보였지만, 서비스업 기업은 총 927개 중에 163개 기업이 사멸되며 높은 수준의 소멸 가능성을 보였다. 한편, 제조업 및 서비스업 기업의 공통생존 결정요인 분석에서는 인건비가 긍정적 요인으로 나타났으며 임대비용과 상장기업 분류 요인이 부정적 영향을 보였다. 서비스업의 경우에는 매출액, 기술이전, 외국자본 주도 등의 요인들이 긍정적 요인으로 나타났다. 국외지출 요인은 서비스업에서는 부정적 요인으로 나타났으나 제조업은 반대로 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과는 기업의 활동과 특징이 산업별로 다르게 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여주었으며 현지 진출 한국 기업들도 지속 생존하기 위해서는 이러한 요인을 종합적으로 고려할 필요가 있다는 시사점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study examines the survival rates and their determinants to understand the sustainability of the foreign firms operated in India. For this purpose, the study analyzes Prowess data from 1991 to 2021, employing Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards model. Notably, the manufacturing sector exhibited a low mortality rate, with only 59 of 399 firms discontinuing. Conversely, 163 out of 927 service sector firms ceased to exist, resulting in a lower survival rate. The findings indicate that labor costs positively influence survival for both sectors, whereas factors like rent a listed company classified have negative effects. Within the service sector, factors related to sales, technology transfer, and foreign capital ownership are positive, while foreign spending is identified as a negative factor. In contrast, manufacturing demonstrates a positive impact from overseas spending. In conclusion, this research demonstrates that a firm's activities have a complex influence on sustainability, and there is a need for foreign firms to comprehensively consider these factors when entering the Indian market.
