Abstract

This study aims to analyze the speech recognition errors of child speakers from a phonological and phonetic perspective and to identify the causes of these errors. To this end, a speech recognition experiment was conducted using a Korean-based speech-to-text (STT) model with child speech data, and the observed error patterns were classified according to phonological environments. The analysis identified key factors contributing to recognition errors in child speech. Consonant-related errors were found to be closely associated with speaker-related factors such as immature articulation and gender-based differences in f0 realization. In contrast, vowel-related errors occurred frequently even when the child’s production was relatively clear and distinguishable, suggesting that these errors may result from how the model processes vowel-specific acoustic cues.
