Abstract
This paper presents a GIS-based software for evaluating subsidence susceptibility in abandoned mine areas. The software is designed to combine frequency ratio model, fuzzy membership functions, analytic hierarchy process to prioritize areas vulnerable to subsidence incorporating 15 contributing factors which can be extracted from Mine GIS of Mine Reclamation Corporation. ArcObject programming using Visual Basic.NET was performed to implement the software as an extension toolbar in ArcMap program. It enables to provide 2D or 3D visualization of final resultant data obtained from four step processes (factor selection, weighting, correlation analysis, mapping option). Application of the software to the abandoned coal mine areas in Gangwon-do revealed that the software can analyze ground stability considering drift, topography, geology and hydrological conditions. Consequently, it gave a reasonable subsidence susceptibility map by spatially comparing with subsidence inventory map. The developed software can be effectively utilized to support subsidence prediction and management of abandoned mine areas
