클라우디오 몬테베르디가 작곡한 두 번째 베니스 오페라인 「아이네아스와 라비니아의 결혼」(1641)은 베르길리우스의 서사시 『아이네이스』에 기초하고 있다. 오페라는 고대 트로이 전쟁의 패장인 아이네아스가 이탈리아 반도에 상륙한 뒤에 모든 역경을 이기고 그곳 라티움 제국의 공주인 라비니아와 결혼하기까지의 과정을 담고 있다. 이 작품의 악보는 현재까지 모습을 드러내지 않고 있다. 대본가는 최근까지 몬테베르디의 첫 번째 베니스 오페라 「오딧세우스의 귀향」의 작가인 지아코모 바도아로로 잘못 알려졌었다. 하지만 니콜라 미켈라시의 2007년 논문에서 이 작품이 바도아로의 절친한 친구인 미켈란젤로 토르칠리아니에 의해 완성되었음이 새롭게 밝혀졌다. 현 논문은 「아이네아스와 라비니아의 결혼」의 내용과 구성 및 현재 선진 학계에서 활발하게 탐구되어 지고 있는 이 작품의 연구결과를 국내 독자들에게 소개하기 위하여 완성되었다.
Abstract
Claudio Monteverdi’s Le nozze d'Enea e Lavinia (1641) whose score has not surfaced yet is based on Vergilius' Aeneid, in which Aeneas, the defeated general of the ancient Troy, lands on Italian peninsula and marries after overcoming hardships princess Lavinia, the daughter of the Latium kingdom. The librettist of the opera had long been known wrongly as Giacomo Badoaro, the one of Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria (1640), Monteverdi's first Venetian opera. This has been fixed in the 2007 article by Nicola Michelassi, in which Michelangelo Torcigliani, a close friend of Badoaro, has come to light. By examining current scholarship on Le nozze d'Enea e Lavinia, the current paper calls attention to the unintroduced theatrical work created by Monteverdi.
