This paper interprets the feminism and symbolic meanings shown in the dance work “MATA HARI” based on the view/meaning of the times and critical analyzing, and examines how the women's social position and consciousness of the times were expressed in the work. First, the criticism on social, cultural, and political issues was expressed in the work by symbolic sense. Secondly, the completeness of the play was enhanced by implying meanings on dancer movements, stage art, music, costumes and accessories. Third, the expression of Matahari's inner desire to find subjectivity completed a feminist structure. Thus, feminism and symbolic meaning in the work have a mutually complementary effect in interpreting the work, and further suggested new approach to understanding the work by presenting the possibility of expansion of creation.
