초록
The purpose of this study is to investigate cultural aesthetics of traditional Korean dance by delving into ‘Han’恨 and ‘Shinmyeong’, the main Korean cultural perspectives in a frame of cultural psychology. Traditional Korean dance does not take direct, intentional expressions much but more indirect, metaphorical ones, and thus it allows relatively free expressions. Such indirect ways of expressions root in Korean people’s conscious awareness of others and community norms of behavior, which are taken to be the base of Korean cultural perception. Traditioanl Korean dance expresses the unique beauty of Korea in both dynamic magnificence and static elegance. The key features of the beauty from abstinence of ‘Han’ and exertion of ‘Shinmyeong’ are temperance and blankness flowing from the serene heart of Koreans, which sublimated ‘Han’ into dynamic and energetic dance of ‘Shinmyeong’. Traditional Korean dance, which is soft but strong and calm but dynamic, is concatenated with ‘Han’ and ‘Shinmyeong’ of Korean ethnic spirit. Zest and merriment that Korean people pursue are carried on by their enjoyment of song, dance, and music, their humor and elegance, and their love of arts. As a combination of amusement, artistry, and spirituality that embodies the spirit of our nation, traditional Korean dance is one of the most valuable cultural heritages of Korea, which accounts for a prospective area of culture and arts and can excel the excellence of Korean culture.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate cultural aesthetics of traditional Korean dance by delving into ‘Han’恨 and ‘Shinmyeong’, the main Korean cultural perspectives in a frame of cultural psychology. The key features of the beauty from abstinence of ‘Han’ and exertion of ‘Shinmyeong’ are temperance and blankness flowing from the serene heart of Koreans, which sublimated ‘Han’ into dynamic and energetic dance of ‘Shinmyeong’.
