본 연구에서는 인간 경험을 탐구하는 하나의 방법으로 내러티브를 활용한 탐구 방법을 가능성을 소개한다. 내러티브는 인간의 경험과 밀접하게 관련되어 있다. 내러티브는 인간 경험이 가진 맥락성, 상대성, 순환성을 가지고 있다. 맥락성은 내러티브를 통해 사실을 이해하도록 할 때 중요한 역할을 하며, 상대성은 개인의 경험에 대한 해석을 가능토록 한다. 순환성은 경험이 끝없이 반복적으로 이루어지는 삶의 해석학적 순환을 설명한다. 이에 따라 내러티브는 새로운 인간 경험을 다루는 탐구 방법으로 가능성을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 내러티브를 활용한 탐구 방법은 후기 실증주의 관점에 입각한 기존 탐구 방법이 가진 한계를 극복할 수 있다. 둘째, 인간 변화에 대한 효과적인 맥락적 이해가 가능하다. 셋째, 인간의 다양한 측면에 대한 총체적인 탐구가 가능하다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 내러티브를 활용한 탐구 방법 중에 내러티브 탐구를 사례로 제시한다. 내러티브 탐구는 살아내기, 이야기하기, 다시 이야기하기, 다시 살아내기의 순환적 구조를 가진 탐구 방식이다.
Abstract
This study introduces the possibility of narrative-based research method to explore the human experience. The Narrative is closely related to human experience. The narrative has the contextuality, relativity, and cyclability of the human experience, and thus has potential as a new method of researching human experiences. Contextuality plays an important role in understanding the phenomenon through narratives, and relativity allows interpretation of individual experiences. Circulation explains the hermeneutical cycle of life in which experience is made endlessly repetitively. Thus narrative has potential as a method of inquiry dealing with a new human experience. First, the narrative-based research method can overcome limitations of existing research method based on post-positivism perspective. Second, effective contextual understanding of human change is possible. Third, it is possible to explore the various aspects of humanity as a whole. Therefore, this study suggests the narrative inquiry as one of the narrative-based research methods. Narrative inquiry is a research method with a cyclical structure of living, telling, retelling, and reliving.
