한국창작무용의 정체성과 가능성: 한국무용제전 30년 성과를 중심으로

한국무용제전은 한국무용연구회가 주최하여 1985년 시작된 이레로 작년 2014년까지 거의 매년 한국창작무용이라는 핵심주제로 꾸준히 이어져 제29회에 이르렀으며 30년을 맞이하였다. 1980년대는 한국 춤이 신무용에서 창작 춤으로 이행해가는 시기였으며 전통에서 단절된 한국 춤의 본래의 모습을 찾는 일과 한국 춤이 공연이라는 형식미를 추구하는 본격적인 다양한 시도가 이루어진 시기였다. 이 논문에서는 한국무용제전의 시작에서부터 어떻게 이어 왔으며 전개되는 과정을 시대적 변화에 특징을 기술하고 그 성과를 확인함으로 앞으로의 전망과 가능성을 확인하고자 한다. 한국무용제전은 한국창작무용이라는 장르를 개척하여 한국무용의 정체성을 확보하는데 기여했으며 한국무용의 창작을 위한 과학적 방법론을 발전시켰다. 한국창작무용의 중흥의 중심에서 한국무용제전은 한국무용의 대중화, 신인안무가들의 등용문, 춤 문화의 지역으로의 확산, 공연작품의 레퍼토리화 등, 많은 성과를 가져왔다. 이 발표는 한국무용제전을 통하여 시대상으로 변모해온 경향을 정리 ·분석하여 한국창작무용에 대한 기대에 대한 부응과 성과를 확인하고 앞으로의 가능성을 타진해보고자 한다. 나아가 한국창작무용의 특징과 정체를 이시기에 다시 재확인함으로 한국창작무용의 약정적 정의의 당위성을 확보하고자 한다.
Abstract
Since 1985, Korean Dance Festival had promoted by The Society of Korean Dance Studies, had established a theme of Korean creative dance, and now, it had been 30 years. 1980s was a bridge era between Korean new dance and creative dance. Also this time, people had tried to find Korean dance's own identity from a break with the past and attempted to develop Korean dance as performing art. This paper described beginning of Korean Dance Festival and its achievement and prospected its potential and possibility. Korean Dance Festival had developed genre of Korean Creative Dance. Also it established its identity. A the center of Korean Creative Dance's restoration, Korean Dance Festival had achieved popularizing Korean dance, discovering new artists, expanding the culture to local areas, and categorizing it as a performing art. This statement examined the potential of Korean Creative Dance through arranging analysis of its chronological changes. Furthermore, it tried to secure appropriateness of stipulative definition by identifying Korean Creative Dance.
