초록

Butyl rubber, also known as IIR(Isobutylene-Isoprene Rubber), is a copolymer comprising approximately 98% isobutylene and 2% isoprene. It has excellent basic physical properties, such as gas permeability, chemical resistance, ozone resistance, and weather resistance, and has high tensile strength owing to the skeleton structure of carbon bonds. In addition, it has a unique property in that when aged, the chains are cut, softened for a short period of time, and cured after a specific time. Because of these properties and excellent durability, the most commercialized reliability test and life prediction method for rubber involves measuring changes in hardness, tensile strength, and elongation after accelerated aging to high temperatures. In this study, samples were produced after the natural aging of military chemical protective gloves produced from 1988 to 2017, and the trend of changes in the physical properties of butyl rubber over time was observed using the test method specified in domestic standards. The trend of changes in the physical properties was confirmed using correlation analysis, and tensile stress and elongation were selected as the test evaluation parameters for life prediction.
