新體散文이 매체와 만나는 두 양상

Abstract

At the end of the 19C, modern newspaper and magazine as a new literary medium had a far-reaching influence on literary writing in China. As the result, novel and new prose writings(新體散文) which were closely connected with modern media had made an appearance as a main genre. The purpose of this study is to examine the Chinese Aspects of relationship between new prose writing and modern media at the turn of the 20C. The results can be summarized into two aspects: First, reciprocal relationship between writing and modern media within the scope of literary writing such as Liang Qi-chao(梁啓超)’s new prose writing(新民體). He paid attention to modern media bearing capacity of wide diffusion. So he reformed the convention of writing prose on a large scale in order to enlighten his nation and save his country. Second, mechanical relationship between writing and modern media beyond the limits of literary writing such as Zhang Tai-yan(章太炎)’s new prose writing(論理文). Modern media is also a capitalistic industry. So it always pursues sustaining profits. At the turn of the 20C, lots of newspaper publishing company had participated in competition for cultivating their public. As the result, the interllectuals who had received classical education had arrived on the newspaper publishing market. In this process, more conventional style prose writings such as Zhang Tai-yan(章太炎)·Zhang Shi-zhao(章士釗)’s new prose writing had wide accepted.
