Abstract

The purpose of this study was to translate the Secondary Exercise Addiction Scale (SEAS) developed by Trott et al(2022) into Korean and to examine its reliability and validity. With the consent of the original author, the 11 questions of the original scale were translated into Korean, back-translated, finalized through expert evaluation. For data analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, validity analysis, and ROC analysis were conducted using data from 300 men and women aged 18 years or older who participated in exercise at least twice a week. The results were as follows: First, it was confirmed that SEAS-K consists of two sub-factors: exercise addiction and eating disorder, which align with the original scale. Second, the reliability of SEAS-K was .76, indicating its usability. Third, the concurrent and convergent validity were confirmed through correlation analysis with SEAS-K, the Exercise Dependence Scale, the Eating Attitudes Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale. Fourth, ROC analysis identified high-risk groups, confirming the optimal cutoff points for each factor as 26 points and 18 points. Based on these findings, the implications and limitations of this study, and suggestions for further research were discussed.
