신임경찰의 다문화 수용성에 관한 연구

본 연구는 앞으로 현장에서 다문화 치안을 담당하게 될 신임경찰의 다문화 수용성 현황과 관련 요인을 분석하여 신임경찰의 다문화 수용성 향상 방안을 모색하고자, 중앙경찰학교 교육생 358명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 신임경찰의 다문화 수용성 정도는 3.31로 보통정도의 수준으로 나타났고, 영역별로는 다양성 차원(3.48), 관계성 차원(3.43), 보편성 차원(3.01)의 순으로 나타났다. 신임경찰의 28.5%만이 다문화교육 경험이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 다문화 활동 경험은 29.9%, 외국 방문 및 체류 경험 39.4%, 외국인과의 교류 경험 30.7%가 있는것으로 나타나 전반적으로 다문화 경험의 정도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 다문화 교육 필요성에 대한 인식은 다소 높게 나타났다. 다문화 수용성 차이 분석에서는 여성이 남성보다, 기혼이 미혼보다, 대도시와 중소도시에 거주하는 신임경찰이 읍면지역에 거주하는 신임경찰보다 다문화 수용성 정도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 다문화 교육 경험, 다문화 활동 경험, 외국 방문 및 체류 경험, 외국인과의 교류 경험이 있는 경우와 시민적 국민정체성인 경우다문화 수용성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 신임경찰의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는요인은 다문화교육 경험, 다문화활동 경험, 국민 정체성, 경찰 다문화교육 인식, 외국인 교류경험, 국민 다문화교육 인식인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 중앙경찰학교에서 교육 중인 신임경찰 일부를 대상으로 구조화된 양적설문조사를 통해 연구가 이루어졌기 때문에 신임경찰 전체의 의견으로 일반화하기에는 한계가 있다. 그러나 신임경찰의 다문화 경험, 국민 정체성, 다문화 수용성의 현황 파악과 경찰 다문화 수용성 향상에 필요한 요인을 확인했다는 점에서 그 의의가있다. 향후 신임경찰 전체와 경찰대학 학생, 경찰 공무원 등으로 연구 범위를 확대하고 질적 방법과 빅데이터 분석 등을 활용한 연구방법론의 다양화를 통해 경찰 다문화 수용성에 대한 종합적인 연구가 이루어질 필요가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of multicultural acceptability of new police officials who will be responsible for multicultural police in the future, The data were collected through questionnaires of 358 students in The Central Police Academy. The degree of multicultural acceptability of the new police was 3.31, which was in the order of the average level. The order of diversity (3.48), relationship dimension (3.43) and universality dimension (3.01) Only 28.5% of the new police officers have experience of multicultural education, indicating that overall experience of multiculturalism is low. On the other hand, awareness of the necessity of multicultural education was rather high. In multicultural acceptability differences analysis, it is found that women are more likely to be multicultural than men who are married than single, and those who live in big city and small city have higher levels of multicultural acceptability than those who live in country. The results showed that multicultural education experience, multicultural activity experience, experience of foreign visit and stay, contact experience with foreigner, and civic national identity were high in multicultural acceptability. Factors influencing the multicultural acceptability of new police officials were found to be multicultural education experience, multicultural activity experience, national identity, police multicultural education awareness, experience of foreign exchange, and awareness of multicultural education. This study is limited to the generalization of the opinion of the whole new police officials because the research was conducted through the structured quantitative survey on the part of the new police officials who are being educated at The Central Police Academy. However, this is significant in that it confirms the factors necessary for the new police officials's multicultural experience, national identity, and multicultural acceptability. In the future, it is necessary to extend the scope of research to the whole new police officials, police college students, and police officers, and to study the police multicultural acceptability through diversification of research methodologies using qualitative methods and big data analysis.
