본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 사회 수업에서 이루어지는 형성평가의 실제적 양상과 교사의 형성평가에 대한 이해를 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 4명의 초등학교 교사의 수업을 참여관찰하고 교사들과 심층면담을 하였다. 연구결과, 초등 사회수업에서 교사의 형성평가에 대한 인식은 미약하였고, 실행되는 형성평가도 지식 평가 중심의 총괄평가에 대비한 보조적 수단으로 활용되는 경향이었다. 형성평가 방식은 형식적 비형식적 평가가 다양하게 활용되고 있었고, 수업의 단계별 형성평가의 진행 방식도 교사마다 다양하게 나타났다. 하지만 평가의 초점은 학생들의 전체적인 이해여부에 맞추어졌고 학생들의 개별적인 학습 개선에 도움이 되는 피드백은 미흡하였다. 이를 토대로 연구자는 형성평가 자체에 대한 교사들의 이해가 촉구될 필요가 있고, 형성평가가 본래의 목적을 달성할 수 있도록 운영될 수 있도록 제도적 개선이 필요함을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate aspects of formative assessment in social studies classroom of elementary school and elementary teacher's understanding on formative assessment. For this purpose, the researcher carry out participative observation and in-depth interview with four elementary teachers. Results of data analysis are as follows: First, elementary teachers show lack of understanding on formative assessment, and they have tendencies to use formative assessment as subsidiary instrument for summative assessment focused to knowledge area. Second, there are many formal and informal forms in formative assessment, and each teacher has practice various assessment patterns in phases of classroom. But the focus of assessment is to find a level of whole student's understanding, and feed-backs to each student are not sufficient. From the basis of this discussion, I suggest that they are required to stimulate teacher's understanding on formative assessment, and to improve systems to help development of formative assessment in classroom.
