성주 이씨家 초상화의 과학적 분석을 통한 모사복원방안 연구

초록

성산사에 봉안되어 있는 성주 이씨家 초상화 중 2점(이조년, 이숭인)을 대상으로 사용 재료 및 기법에 대한 과학적 분석을 실시하고, 그 데이터를 기반하여 최적의 모사복원방안을 설계하였다. 표현 기법 조사 결과, 두 진영 모두 선묘 위주로 표현되었지만, 신발과 눈동자, 육색 표현, 가채, 보강 흔적 등에서 차이를 보였다. 안료 분석 결과, 공통적으로 적색 안료는 주사와 연단의 혼합 혹은 유기 안료를 사용하였으며, 청색 안료는 석청을 사용했다. 녹색 안료 는 석록(Malachite)이 사용되었고, 백색 안료는 연백을 사용했다. 황색 안료는 유기 안료와 금박 이 사용된 것으로 추정된다. 이숭인 진영은 석간주와 녹염동광(Atacamite)도 사용되었다. 또한 동시대 사대부상과 비교한 결과, 두 초상화에서 당시 초상화 양식이 발견되나 변형된 특이점이 존재하였다. 과학적 분석 데이터를 기반으로 하여 이조년 진영은 고색복원모사, 이숭인 진영은 현상모사로 결정하였다. 육안으로 확인하기 어려운 표현 기법들을 과학적 분석 데이터로 보완 하여 세부적인 채색 기법을 제시하였다. 또한 각 색상별로 초상화에서 대표적인 위치의 색도를 측정하여 평균값을 계산한 색상 기준값을 제시함으로써 유물의 현재 색상을 최대한 객관적 데이터를 근거로 하여 모사복원할 수 있도록 하였다.

Abstract

Materials and techniques used for two portraits (Jo-nyeon Lee and Sung-in Lee) of the Lee family from Seongju enshrined in Seongsan temple were scientifically analyzed, and based on the data, an optimal replica restoration method was designed. According to the expression technique investigation, both portraits were expressed mainly in line drawing, but there were differences in shoes, pupils, the color expression of flesh, overpainting, and traces of reinforcement. Pigment analysis revealed that a mixture of cinnabar and minium, organic pigment, azurite, malachite, lead white, and yellow pigment were used in common. In the case of Sung-in Lee’s portrait, seokganju and atacamite were also used. In addition, comparison with the contemporaneous portraits of gentry showed that the portrait style at the time was found in the two portraits, but the singularity was modified differently there. Based on the scientific analysis, it was decided to replicate the old color restoration for Jo-nyeon Lee’s portrait while for Sung-in Lee’s portrait, it was decided to replicate the phenomenon. Detailed coloring techniques were presented by supplementing the expression techniques that are difficult to confirm visually using scientific data. In addition, by measuring the chromaticity of representative positions in the portrait for each color and presenting the color reference value calculated as the average value, the current color of the artifact can be replicated and restored based on the objective data as much as possible.
