이하응초상 -금관조복본- 채색안료의 과학적 연구

이하응초상 금관조복본은 현재 두 본이 전해져 오고 있다. 한 본에는 표제가 남아있어 제작자와 제작시기를 알 수 있으나, 또 다른 한 본은 표제 없이 그림만 전해지고 있다. 하지만 두 본은 크기나 색채, 도상 등이 유사하여 같은 시기에 같은 제작자에 의해 그려진 복본이나 별본으로 추정되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 두 본에 사용된 채색안료의 과학적인 비교 분석을 통해 두 초상의 연관성을 알아보고자 하였다. 또한 이를 통해 초상의 제작시기인 19세기 말 초상화의 채색재료와 기법 등도 확인하는 기회로 삼고자 하였다. 두 초상의 성분분석에는 XRF를 이용하였고, 세부관찰에는 디지털현미경, X선촬영기를 이용하였다. 분석결과 흑색은 먹, 백색은 연분, 황색은 석자황, 석웅황, 황색유기안료, 적색은 석간주, 주사, 연단, 적색유기안료, 청색은 석청, 그리고 기타 색상으로 자색유기안료, 금을 사용한 것으로 추정되었다. 이상과 같이 두 금관조복본에 사용된 안료를 비교 검토해 본 결과 사용 안료가 동일함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 안료의 채색 순서, 배채의 유무 등 채색기법 역시 크게 다르지 않았다. 따라서 두 본의 채색안료나 기법은 동일하다고 볼 수 있으며, 같은 작가가 동일한 재료를 가지고 두 본을 그려낸 것으로 추정되었다. 두 초상의 분석결과를 바탕으로 좀 더 정확한 안료해석을 위해 금관조복본의 제작시기와 비슷한 시기에 제작된 태조어진을 참고하였다. 어진의 제작기록을 담고 있는『御眞移摸都監儀軌』와 어진의 분석결과를 종합적으로 검토한 결과, 금관조복본에 당묵, 진묵, 당분, 진분, 당주홍, 왜주홍, 석간주, 금박, 이금, 석자황, 석웅황, 이청, 삼청 등이 사용되었을 가능성이 있고, 황색, 적색, 자색의 유기안료는 등황, 연지, 연지와 청화(묵)의 혼합인 것으로 추정되었다.
Abstract
Two GeumGwanJoBokBon (portraits of a person dressed in an official costume with a golden crown) are currently handed down as portraits of Lee Ha-eung. One of them has a title through which we can guess when it was made by whom, but the other has no title. Nonetheless, they are assumed duplicate portraits or attachment each other drawn by a single painter at the same time since their size, color and figure look very similar. This study aims to find out what relationship they have through a scientific comparative analysis of the pigment used for the two pictures. Also, pigment and technique of the 19th century can be made clear, when the two portraits were made. XRF was used to analyze the components of the portraits, and digital microscope and X-rays Inspector used to trace out more details. The analysis shows that black is chinese ink, white is lead white, and a yellow is orpiment, realgar, yellow organic pigment, and red is red ochre, cinnabar, minium, organic pigment, and blue is azurite. In addition, purple organic pigment and gold seemed to be used as well. Pigment of the two portraits are found to be the same, and painting technique including painting order of pigment is not much different each other. In this sense, the two portraits seem same in terms of painting pigment and technique, and therefore, it is presumed that same painter used same materials to draw them. For more accurate interpretation of the pigment, Taejo-Eojin(a portrait of a founder king) was used as a reference whose manufacturing timing is similar to the portrait of Lee Ha-eung(GeumGwanJoBokBon). A comprehensive review of the EoJinIMoDoGamuIQwe(manufacturing record of Taejo-Eojin) and Taejo-EoJin suggests that chinese ink(DangMuk, JinMuk), lead white(DangBun, JinBun), cinnabar(DangJuHong, WaeJuHong), red ochre, gold foil, gold dust, orpiment, realgar, azurite(ICheong, SamCheong) etc. were used for GeumGwanJobokBon, and yellow, red, purple organic pigment were gamboge, safflower(or lac), a mixture of safflower(or lac) and indigo.
