This study was carried out to investigate the effect of female university student’s appearance management attitude on body images. The data was collected and analyzed from 330 female students from universities in Seoul and Daejeon from March 15th to March 30th of 2012. The questionnaire was composed of demographic characteristics, appearance management attitude and body images. For this study, the data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, Duncan’s multiple range test, x2-test, K-means cluster analysis, Cronbach’s α, and factor analysis, using SPSS WIN 16.0 program. The results in this study indicated that the body images of female university students are classified as 3 sub-factors such as satisfaction with the appearance, appearance orientation and appearance evaluation and there were significant differences in satisfaction with the appearance factor, appearance orientation and appearance evaluation. It was divided by K-means cluster analysis as group of body shape, skin, make-up and hair. Negative effects on satisfaction with the appearance are skin and hair and positive effects on satisfaction with the appearance are make-up and body shape. Negative effect on appearance orientation is make-up and positive effects on appearance-orientation are body shape and hair. Negative effect on appearance evaluation is body shape and positive effects on appearance evaluation are skin, hair and make-up.
