상촌가(象村家)의 『평산신씨성보(平山申氏姓譜)』 편찬에 대하여

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the features and background of the genealogy in the 17th century with special reference with “Pyeongsan Shin Family Geneology.” compiled by the two generation of Shin Heum and Shin Ikseong. Shin Heum recognized serious crisis awareness on the existence of his family with his exile to Chuncheon as a momentum and started compilation of “Pyeongsan Shin Family Geneology.” However, after the restoration of King Injo, his political status was stabilized, which weakened his crisis awareness and resulted in the postponement of the compilation of the genealogy. After the death of Shin Heum, Shin Ikseong found the draft of “Pyeongsan Shin FamilyGeneology” and started the supplement of the genealogy. It aimed to reinforce the family status established by Shin Heum. The system of “Pyeongsan Shin Family Geneology” that Shin Ikseong completed became the general system of the genealogy. The compilation of genealogy in the 17th century began in order to collect and supplement lost literature after a war. And, it is an output of crisis awareness deepended by the political crisis of the restoration of King Injo. While the compiled genealogy of this period caused disputes in the later generation thanks to the lack of historical research, it became the class of the genealogy compilation in the later generations.
