Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a self-reported instrument to measure the level of creative home environment. The subjects were 821 children (524 children in sample 1, 221 children in sample 2, 71 children in sample 3) in 10 elementary schools located in Seoul and Gyuenggi-do. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, content validity ratio, Pearson’s correlation analyses, explanatory factor analyses, confirmatory factor analyses, internal consistency and test-retest reliability analyses. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, The creative home environment (CHEI) were consisted of 5 factor and 39 items: a variety of experience, parental pressure, creative role model, space and instruments for creative performance and respect and encouragement. Second, The CHEI was shown to have a strong validity. Confirmatory and explanatory factor analyses supported the formation of five sub-factors with the appropriate level of the model fit index. Third, The CHEI was also showed an acceptable level of reliability. The results showed that the CHEI is a valid and reliable inventory to identify the level of the creative home environment. This study can serve as a starting point for the creative home environment research and educational program development.
