Abstract

This study was performed to examine the influences of the trunk muscle strength training of individual with hemiplegic on balance and daily living activity(ADL). Thirty hemiplegic subjects who were diagnosed as having cerebral hemorrhages or cerebral infarctions were participated in this study. They were divided into 2 groups: experimental group and control group. The experimental and control group received 30minute neurologic treatment 5 times a week and the experimental group participated trunk flexor and extensor strength exercise 3 times a week during 6 weeks. Functional Independent Measurement(FIM) was used to evaluate functional ability and Functional Reach Test was used to evaluate balance ability of the subjects at pre and post training after 6 weeks. The results were follow: Considering the interaction of change on balance, functional and mobility ability improvement of experimental group and control group, the change of the experimental group was found to be greater than that of the control group. In conclusion, trunk flexor and extensor strength exercise resulted in physical balance and functional and mobility ability improvement in ADL. For the generalization of the research outcomes, more research needs to be applied to individuals with hemiplegia.
