Abstract
This paper examines the life and literary world of Lee Ki-ban (pen name: Wolchon), a poet who was actively engaged in the Jeonbuk region of Korea. His poetry is deeply rooted in the themes of love for nature, humanity, and God, revealing emotional landscapes of topophilia, philanthropy, and theophilia. Through delicate depictions of local scenery, familial affection, neighborly compassion, and spiritual contemplation, Lee’s works express his attachment to his hometown and his profound ethical sensibility. His poetry not only celebrates regional identity but also harmonizes traditional and modern aesthetics through a flexible use of both sijo and free verse. This paper analyzes the thematic and formal characteristics of Lee Ki-ban's poetry and presents reasons why he should be considered a valuable asset to regional literature. By reexamining his works, which effectively embody regional identity, this study aims to expand the horizons of Korean regional poetry.
