Abstract

The objective of the present study was to provide basic data for the design of ‘the pair of wells’ in Jeonju Hanok Village by investigating and analyzing their locational characteristics and natural as well as human environments in an attempt to map out plans to restore and activate the wells as a tourism resource. In the final master plan, it was intended to create a showroom of sky flowerpots in which traces of the wall fall, sky and water could be reflected off the ceiling, to use the passages as a space for permanent and special exhibitions, and to renovate the circular-form well into a foot bath by leading the overflowing water to enter a streamlet in the form of swamp, so that tourists might take rest there. Moreover, a straw cutter play facility would be installed to create a place to remind adults of past memories and to inspire fun to children. In the sub-sector plan, a space layout was worked out to increase spatial utilization by combining green areas, rest places, and cultural facilities and, as a landmark water-scenic facility, to install an exhibition area for the pair of wells with the ceiling on which the sky and water could be reflected. In addition, it was also attempted in this paper to make better use of new cultural resources as contents to expand the traffic of tourists to Omokdae and Imokdae in the nearby place of Jeonju.
