문화 간 대화를 통한 세계시민교육의 실천과 가능성

이 연구는 문화 간 대화를 통해 타자를 진정으로 이해할 수 있는 세계시민교육의 실천과가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 기존의 다문화교육, 세계시민교육의 노력에도 불구하고 문화적 타자에 대한 배제와 차별은 사라지지 않는다는 비판적인 성찰에서 출발한다. 이를 위해서한국, 중국 일본의 연구자와 교육자가 상호이해를 목표로 협력적 그리고 순환적으로 실시한문화 간 대화 프로그램을 질적 사례연구의 방법으로 교육적 의미를 분석하였다. 연구결과크게 세 가지 의미가 발견되었다. 첫째, 문화 간 대화는 타자를 사유하는 경험이 되었다. 타자의 존재를 알고 있으나 이해로 이어지지 못한 것은 타자를 충분히 사유할 기회가 없었기때문이었다. 둘째, 개인을 사유하는 기회가 되었다. 국가나 집단에 가려져 보이지 않았던개인을 발견하고 사유하는 것은 타자에 대한 진정한 이해로 이어질 수 있었다. 셋째, 자신을사유하는 기회가 되었다. 문화가 무엇인지, 자신을 구성하는 것이 무엇인지 성찰하면서 자신을 재발견하는 교육적 경험이 이루어졌다.
Abstract
This study sought to explore the practice and possibility of global citizenship education to understand ‘Others’ through intercultural dialogue. Despite the efforts of multicultural education and global citizenship education, the exclusion and discrimination against cultural hitters do not disappear. To this end, researchers and educators in Korea, China, and Japan planed intercultural dialogue programs and analyzed their educational meaning as a method of qualitative case studies. Findings are as follows First, intercultural dialogue became an experience to reflect on others. The reason why we knew about the existence of the others but failed to lead to understanding was that we did not have a chance to fully think about the other. Second, it was an opportunity to think about an individual. Discovering and reflecting on an individual who was hidden by a nation or group could lead to a genuine understanding of the other. Third, it was an opportunity to reflect on oneself. Students had a chance to rediscover themselves by reflecting on the culture and their identity.
