Abstract

Since the scale of individual farm household's crop acreage has been too small to attain scale of economy and farm managers have been aging fast, it's too obvious that there are certain limits in increasing farm households' incomes through increasing agriculture incomes. Therefore, non-farm incomes become more important factor in improving farm households' incomes.This study examines the condition of non-farm incomes and attempts to provide some suggestions for increasing non-farm incomes based upon the surveyed data on regional residents in Gyeongbuk province. Main suggestions are as follows for increasing non-farm incomes. First, creating various sources for non-farm incomes is most important thing since 65% of the respondents have no chance to earn non-farm incomes. Second, main policies should be focused on agriculture related businesses considering the longevity and low technical skill of the residents. Third, establishing the system for promoting non-farm incomes at the level of farm household or regional government is considered as most important thing in subsidiary policies. Finally, regional industrial clusters are considered as more efficient way than individual supports in the sense that agricultural production and marketing groups could bring an agglomeration effects.
