Abstract
This study attempts to newly examine the character of the protagonist in KimYeongcheol-Jeon(金英哲傳), by focusing on his movements and relationships with those around him. In this work, the movement of the main character is not a matter of choice, but rather an inevitable action for survival in the context of a war. His movement consists of joining the military, escaping, and returning home does not resolve the problems, but rather acts as a mechanism for creating new problems. The people around him encountered in the process were directly or indirectly affecting his pain. His helpers are dualistic figuress who both assis him and, at the same time, pose new problems or threats. Because of them, KimYeongcheol is forced to live a life that drifts beyond his own will. He has a total of three wives, and the relationship with them was 'discomfort'. He is indecisive toward his foreign wives, so he cannot resolve their repeated suspicions. He had no choice but to present a false version of himself to his Joseon wife. Therefore, the relationship between the main character's husband and wife was inevitably broken. KimYeongcheol, who was originally willing, gradually changed into a passive person as he suffered the war. In his later years, he resented the court and reached a state of resignation where he can no longer feel resentment at all. His appearance reflects the people of the time who had to endure the weight of the war alone without any recourse.
