Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a modernized cultural product by comparing the morphological characteristics of the Rank Badge patterns, focusing on the crane pattern used in the late Joseon Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty. The characteristics of the sternum pattern between Korea and China were investigated through literature research and investigation research methods. In addition, through a comparative study, the morphological differences in the Rank Badge patterns of the Korean-Chinese crane pattern were analyzed. The Rank Badge pattern is a square decoration expressed on the chest and back of the royal family and bureaucratic attire from ancient times, and the pattern appears differently depending on the grade. The system for the use of thymus was established from the Ming Dynasty in China, and it was introduced to Korea in the late Joseon Dynasty. Most of the patterns on the Rank Badge of Korea and China are used with similar meanings, but there are many differences in composition and color in terms of form. Among them, the Crane Pattern symbolized longevity in oriental culture and appeared as a bird that was very familiar with everyday life, and all the Korean-Chinese civil servants’ uniforms were based on the motif of the crane. The crane pattern is the oldest among the Rank Badge pattern, and the aesthetic shape is highly likely to be transformed into a modern pattern. In particular, traditional patterns are widely used not only in the past but also in the present, and due to the meaning and symbolism of the times, they can be sufficiently reinterpreted and used in the present. Therefore, in this study, the spell pattern was expressed using the Crane pattern and the background pattern was expressed using the characteristics of the cloud pattern. By simplifying the form shown in the Rank Badge pattern, but maintaining the composition and designing the combination of Chinese characters and English, we have developed a cultural product that can convey meaning and induce purchasing needs to consumers.
