Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze occupational therapists’ intentions to use virtual reality (VR) programs, and propose directions for effectively integrating VR into occupational therapy practice. To achieve this, the study adopted the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), a theoretical framework widely used to explain the intention to adopt new technologies. The research model included the core TAM variables and perceived enjoyment, an essential VR-related factor. Participants consisted of 150 occupational therapists working in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, and data were collected through an online self-administered questionnaire. The main findings were as follows: First, perceived ease of use had a positive effect on both perceived usefulness and behavioral intention—this suggests that when therapists perceive VR programs as easy to use, they are more likely to view them as beneficial and intend to use them in the future. Second, perceived enjoyment had a positive effect on perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and behavioral intention. This indicates that when the use of VR is experienced as enjoyable, it enhances the perceived convenience, usefulness, and likelihood of continued use. Lastly, perceived usefulness did not show a direct influence on behavioral intention. In conclusion, for VR programs to be effectively integrated into occupational therapy settings, they should be designed to be both user-friendly and engaging, fostering a sense of interest and immersion among therapists. Ultimately, such programs are expected to contribute to improvements in patients’ physical functions and overall quality of life.
