Abstract

During recent years a significant development within the broad globalization trend has been increasingly active role played by small and medium-sized venture firms. The establishment of new ventures lies at the foundation of entrepreneurship, and the establishment and growth of entrepreneurial ventures is responsible for much of the wealth creation in many nations. In this paper, we considered arguments suggested by four perspectives based on organizational resources, internationalization, alliance capabilities and strategic choices, and explored whether young venture firms could improve performance by using firm-specific resources, leveraging inter-organizational relationships, focusing on extensive internationalization and making proper strategic choices. Regression results show that firm's technological capabilities, differentiation strategy and international sales positively affected its performance. The findings also show that the interaction of firm's technological capabilities and its differentiation strategy and the interaction of its differentiation strategy and internationalization also positively affected its performance. However, the finding suggests that small and medium-sized venture firms’ establishing manufacturing subsidiaries abroad did not improve their performances. Statistical test results also find that the interaction of firm's technological capabilities and its marketing alliance with other organizations and the interaction of firm’s technological capabilities and its manufacturing alliance with other organizations did not affect its performance significantly.
