이 논문은 사순절 마지막 주간인 성 주간 중 목요일부터 부활절 새벽까지 3일 동안 연속적으로 드리는 예배들이 어떤 과정을 통해 서방 전통에서 형성이 되었는지 역사적 자료들을 통해 고찰하고 이를 북미의 개신교회들이 어떻게 적용했는지를 연구하였다. 본 연구를 수행하면서 거룩한 3일의 예배에 대해 다음과 같은 결론에 도달하게 되었다. 초기 기독교회부터 형성된 거룩한 3일의 예배는 모든 인류를 살리시기 위해 돌아가신 그리스도의 고난의 기념(anamnesis)과 구속의 완성인 부활을 기다리는 기대(prolepsis)를 경험하게 하고 예배자들의 삶 속에 체화시키는 역할을 하였다. 따라서, 한국의 개신교회들은 이 예배를 여러 상황과 문화적으로 잘 융합하여 구성해서 드린다면 이 예배를 통해 그리스도의 삶의 발자취를 따라 가는 경험을 하게 될 것이다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 순서로 진행되었다. 1장은 들어가는 말과 선행연구를 기술하였고 2장에서는 교회력에 대한 간단한 설명 그리고 파스카와 부활절이 어떤 과정을 거쳐 정해졌는지를 역사적 흐름에 따라 기술하였다. 3장에서는 3일의 예배 형성에 가장 중심이 되는 예루살렘 예전의 소개와 그 기원을 설명하였고 그 후 서방전통에서 어떻게 이를 발전시키고 혹은 소멸되었는지를 기술하였다. 4장에서는 20세기 이후 로마 가톨릭 교회의 예전회복운동으로 인한 3일 예전의 회복과 이에 영향을 받은 북미의 개신교회들의 예배들에 대해 비교하며 기술하였다, 5장은 본 연구의 결론으로 전체적 요약과 함께 한국 개신교회가 이 예전을 수용하는 문제에 대해 제안하였다.
Abstract
This thesis examines how the Holy Triduum, the three days liturgy from Thursday to the dawn of Easter during the Holy Week, had been formed continuously in the Western tradition, and probes how the Protestant churches in North America applied the Triduum. Researching the historical resources regarding this topic, I came to the following conclusions. This three-day liturgies in Lenten season, formed from the early Christian Church, play an important role in allowing the participants to experience the anamnesis of Christ's suffering and the expectation of the resurrection, which is the completion of redemption (prolepsis), to be embodied in their lives. Therefore, if the Protestant churches in Korea shape and adapt these seasonal liturgies, the participants will experience the footsteps of Christ’s salvific works. This study was conducted in the following order. Section1 describes the introduction and some prior researches regarding this topic. Section 2, then, explains the definition of liturgical calendar, briefly and how Passover and Easter were determined according to the historical flow. Section 3 explains the introduction and origins of the Jerusalem liturgy, which is the most central to the formation of the three-day liturgies. In addition, this section describes how the liturgies were developed or disappeared in the Western tradition. Section 4 compares and explains the Roman Catholic’s recovery of the Triduum affected by the liturgical movement of the Vatican II in the twentieth century and the newly developed Triduum of the major Protestant churches in North America. Section 5, the conclusion of this research, offers a summary and proposes some suggestions for the Protestant churches in Korea to adapt the Triduum.
